Health IT Now Supports National Patient ID Challenge

Washington, DC – Health IT Now (HITN) issued the following statement in support of the National Patient ID Challenge:

“We applaud CHIME for their efforts advocating a unique patient identification system. The lack of a system to match a patients information back to their own medical records presents huge patient safety concerns and needs to be addressed,” said HITN Senior Vice President Robert Horne. “Much like a phone book or email contacts, reference systems that incorporate such tools as a UDI are integral for connectivity and supporting the flow of information. We should all strive to prevent barriers that inhibit real-time patient matching and impede interoperability of health information and records. HITN is dedicated to supporting initiatives that increase the ability to send, receive, and use information. We look forward to moving this issue forward with other interested stakeholders like CHIIME in the months to come.”
