HIA Urges E&C To Carve Health Data Out Of Privacy Bill

Inside Health Policy spotlighted HIA’s call for the House Energy & Commerce Committee to carve out health care laws and regulations from any future broader privacy legislation.

Brett Meeks, executive director of HIA, specifically urges the committee to consider the Health Data Use and Privacy Commission Act, which would establish a commission of experts to analyze whether health privacy policies need adjustment and, if so, how.

HIA is a diverse coalition of patient advocates, health care providers, consumer organizations, employers, technology companies, and payers who support use of data and technology to improve health outcomes and lower costs.
