Health IT Now: Small Business Committee Hearing Will Show Promise of Telemedicine
Washington, D.C. – Tomorrow the House Committee on Small Business’ Subcommittee on Health and Technology is hosting the hearing, “Telemedicine: A Prescription for Small Medical Practices?” This hearing comes at the tail end of an exciting week for telemedicine. The VA reform bill that passed out of the House Veteran’s Affairs Committee includes remote patient monitoring at the core of its solutions for the VA health system. As a practice, telemedicine is gaining steam from coast to coast.
Health IT Now Coalition Applauds ONC Realignment
Dr. Karen DeSalvo, Director of the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT announced an overhaul in the structure and organization of the office. She emphasized the re-structuring seeks to offer a “flatter and more accountable reporting structure” that will be necessary to tacking the many priorities ONC is taking on in 2014, especially interoperability.
Health IT Now Coalition Statement on Meaningful Use Delay
(Washington, D.C.) – This week, ONC and CMS announced the Agencies would add a third year (2016) to Stage 2 Meaningful use program and begin Stage 3 one year later in 2017. Under the proposal, providers could also continue to meet Stage 1 in 2014. CMS and ONC argue that providers and EHR vendors need additional time and flexibility to meet Stage 2 standards.
